Return to Philmland

Oh, I see. Legends of Oz was a flop because of a vast Hollywood conspiracy to take it down.

“Here’s to the failure of another movie promoting those Magic Belt thieves!”
You know how I know that isn’t true? Because the only reason I’ve come across any publicity at all about the movie, good OR bad, is because I’m subscribed to several Oz forums. I think I might have seen a television spot or two,…

Princess Polychrome in the crowd of the final scene of Return to Oz

I suspect Polychrome was Baum’s version of an empowered Persephone. The Nome King begs her to live with him in his underground kingdom, but she chooses to return to her mother, the Rainbow, in the sky.

In “Tik-Tok,” anyway; she’d already appeared in “Road” without any clear connection to Persephone. I think you’re on to something there, though, as the Nome King is very much a Hades analog.

Return to Oz

this is the only film that ever truly frightened me. i’m 21 years old, i last saw it more than a decade ago (and the only time i saw it) and i’m still too afraid to rewatch this movie “for children”. i remember everything about it. it’s pure terror.

Tru Dat but it’s fantastic. I HATE the original Wizard of Oz movie but I love this one. Flying Monkeys got nothing on those Wheelie guys…and Faruza? Bitch, please.
